Project Detail

The Joliet Regional Multi-Modal Transportation Center in Joliet, Illinois, will be the key component and catalyst to the City of Joliet’s “Central Area Plan and Implementation Strategy” for the redevelopment of downtown Joliet.  The transportation center will be built and managed by the City of Joliet and is designed to serve local, regional, interstate, state, and national needs.

The proposed regional transportation center will relocate all current transit modes and add new transit modes to one central facility adjacent to the National Register Historic Joliet Union Station.  It will also resolve connection challenges–located at the intersection of the Metra/BNSF, AMTRAK, and the Union Pacific elevated rail lines adjacent to the existing Union Station.  The project involves construction of a new transportation center with elevated passenger platforms, bus bays and turn-around, associated supportive uses, and significant parking.
