The Public Building Commission of Chicago (PBCC) 2013 School Investment Program goals included facility renovations and upgrades to provide Chicago Public Schools students with access to school environments that are welcoming. These included ensuring temperature and moisture appropriate physical environments, physical security, pleasant aesthetics, accessibility for all students, technology infrastructure, and programmatic focus.
Nearly 100 public schools were upgraded utilizing 17 project assignments. These project teams were challenged to meet or exceed participation goals for minority- and women-owned businesses, as well as reflecting the community in which they exist. They were undertaken within tight budget margins and an extraordinarily short time frame. All projects began in mid-June and school buildings were ready for August teacher preparation and occupancy.
dsi participated on two of the seventeen project teams across the City of Chicago, providing on-site construction oversight to ensure that these design-build renovations met the expectations of the project scope. dsi provided quality management, resource allocation, and schedule-driven to multi-shift and diverse locations.
All of the 11 schools on which dsi participated were completed on time and within the budget for Fall 2013 openings.
